Expected Outcomes of the International Conference

As part of the dissemination strategy under Work Package 7, Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) was responsible for organizing an international conference in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. The conference was expected to attract 400 participants and serve as a platform to share the project’s overview, achievements, and key outputs with the wider higher education community.

The conference was open to all higher education institutions globally, with particular emphasis on participants from Southeast Asia. It was designed to promote knowledge exchange, foster collaboration, and support the broader adoption of digital transformation initiatives aligned with the DXSEA project.

Achievement of Targeted Participants

The Global Conference on Digital Transformation in Higher Education (DX2025) with the theme of “Redefining Possibilities in the Digital Transformation” were co-organized with the Malaysian e-Learning Council for Public Universities (MEIPTA) and Faculty of Education & Sports Studies, Universiti Malaysia Sabah.

  • The conference was held on 27–28 October 2025, conducted in a hybrid format:
  • Virtual participation for all external attendees.
  • Physical participation at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC) for DXSEA project members, in conjunction with the scheduled project meeting.
  • Actual Participation: 592, exceeding the expected 400 participants
  • Participants represented 17 countries, demonstrating strong international interest and outreach.
  • 6 invited speakers shared their expertise and insights (https://dxsea.co/speaker-dx25).
  • 20 presenters presented their experiences related to digital education: (https://dxsea.co/schedule-dx25)

During the event, the EuroAsia Digital Learning Network (EDLAN) was officially launched, with its members also taking part in the conference. The launch enhanced the visibility of the DXSEA project and strengthened regional collaboration in digital transformation.

Conclusion

The International Conference significantly exceeded the EU target of 400 participants, attracting 592 attendees from 17 countries, an increase of 48%. Malaysia accounted for the largest group (437 participants), followed by the Philippines (88), Oman (19), Cambodia (12), and China (9). Additional participation from Saudi Arabia, Latvia, Indonesia, Korea, and other nations further underscored the expanding global reach of the DX.sea initiative.

This strong turnout highlights both the commitment of participating institutions and the programme’s growing regional relevance. The diversity of workshop themes including digital leadership, cybersecurity awareness, AI competencies, and pedagogical innovation enhanced the conference’s impact and fostered valuable cross-institutional collaboration. Together, these outcomes contribute to a more connected, resilient, and sustainable digital transformation ecosystem across Southeast Asia, reinforced by the launch of the EuroAsia Digital Learning Network (EDLAN) which further amplifies EU visibility and influence in the region.
